Cicero and the Snake

On the crowded road of eyes

Ghosts drift from home to home

In the arms of the proscribed

In an empty room

Cicero sings a song

That no one else can hear

In the senate of his grief

In his wild despair

All the roads that lead out of town

Shimmer along their scales

The serpent with its mouth hung drawn

Will deliver you to its tail

With your hands and your head

up on nails

For the Serpent to reveal

The modern men dance in shells

Of right and rules and laws

And complement their righteousness

In boundless rounds of applause

There is danger in the room

Where we must sit up straight

And exposed in nakedness

Where we are flesh and name

All the roads that lead out of town

Shimmer along their scales

The serpent with its mouth hung drawn

Will deliver you to its tail

With your hands and your head

up on nails

For the Serpent to reveal

There’s nothing right about this day

Said Cicero on his knees

But if you can just kill me right

You will’ve done right by me

The serpent with his mouth hung drawn

Consumes his burning bride

All that’s left of cicero

Was a man on the wrong side.

All the roads that lead out of town

Shimmer along their scales

The serpent with its mouth hung drawn

Will deliver you to its tail

With your hands and your head

up on nails

For the Serpent to reveal
